Eduroam is the abbreviation of the words ‘Education Roaming’. It is aimed to provide a successful internet usage for the institutions of eduroam members to connect from other education institutions through using RADIUS 802.1* security standards. The users of Eduroam member instituions can connect web from another eduroam instituion (Guest Institution) with the code which they have in their home institutions. When the user sends a connection request for the eduroam signals received, the authority supplier of Guest Instituion’s will direct signals to that user’s home institution supplier to check whether it is in charge or not. All these requirements are asked through a ciphered tunnel constituted between home and guest home suppliers, so the user’s name and cipher can not be seen by any suppliers but the home and guest home’s. In this case, the only thing that the user should do is to identify the Eduroam wireless connection in guest institution as if it is connected to home institution’s web.

Eduroam has a hierarchic federation structure.There are still two confederations in the world : Europe Eduroam Confederation and Asia-Pacific Eduroam Confederation. Eduroam member institutions send interrogations to the eduroam federations located in their countries. And the federations of countries send interrogations to the confederations they belong to. Every new federation who joins Europe Eduroam Confederation, which Turkey is linked to , and Asia-Pasific Eduroam Confederation is known by all eduroam institutions thanks to this hierarchic structure.
